Femke De Jong

Artist

Femke's work focuses on creating images with a curious and whimsical feel. By juxtaposing and layering image and context digitally and by hand, she designs surreal characters and landscapes. Femke gets her ideas through observation, research and experimentation with materials and techniques. Femke's work evolves around her fascination with the relationship between man and machine, often customizing existing objects by 're-appropriating' them with mechanical and nostalgic elements. Her influences reach back to her childhood, antique novelties, inventions, old advertisement posters and Russian Constructivists like Rodchenko and El Lissitzky.
