There are some things about American Supermarkets that still baffle me. How can it be easier to buy a pigs’ hoof than desiccated coconut? Why are deodorants, hair spray and face wash kept behind locked cabinets? Where they sell whole octopus, baby sharks and clams but not almond milk?

New York has opened our eyes to several flavour sensations - dollar slices, 's'mores' and having peanut butter on pretty much everything. The most recent delight we were introduced to was in liquid form, the 'brass monkey'.

In a recent wander around Williamsburg on a chilly afternoon Maxie and I were lured in by the neon lights, warmth and promise of interesting beverages at David Chang's Milk Bar.
