Jack's Wife Freda, New York

With friends visiting from Chicago and me visiting from Australia, Saturday morning meant a breakfast out in NYC. Maxie and I had walked past cute and cosy looking Jack's Wife Freda (224 Lafayette street, New York, NY 10009) on a recent stroll and noted it as somewhere to visit. We would definitely come back!

We sipped on coffee and the house special Nana Tea with fresh mint. Delightfully freshing and unsweetened.

And we dined on Green Shakshuka (2 baked eggs in a green shakshuka with challah toast) ($10) - YUM.
FYI Shakshuka is an Israeli dish of eggs poached in a sauce typically of tomatoes, capsicum, chilli, onion, garlic and spices like cumin and paprike. Challah is an awesome brioche-like Jewish egg bread.

And also on poached eggs with grilled tomato and haloumi with sourdough toast ($9). Also yum!

The food here was great - really reasonable portions (you don't feel like you need to go back to bed after eating), fresh and flavourful. The service is relaxed and cheery. A tasty, well-priced and non-confrontational dining experience.
Then it was off the Hell's Kitchen Flea Market to find an outfit for going out dancing that night!
